North Carolina Transportation Museum

When my grandsons came to Southern Pines for a visit, we took them to the North Carolina Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. It is listed as one of North Carolina’s most popular historical sights, and showcases the history of transportation in our great state. My oldest grandson absolutely loves trains, and this trip was really cool for him at the age of 4.

We started our day off with a 30 minute narrated train ride around the 87 acre property. It was informative and enjoyable. We then walked the property to check out all the collections and exhibits. They have a large collections of diesel locomotives that are stored in the roundhouse. We even took a ride on the turntable. They also have a great exhibit of antique automobiles and even have a full sized replica of the Wright Flyer.

The museum offers Christmas and Halloween special events. You can even take a ride on Thomas at various times of the year. If you live in the North Carolina area, I suggest you check out this museum. You can also check the museum out online at http://www.nctrans.org/
